Police Bust Chemical Smuggling Ring in Sambhal and Seize Rs 1.6 Crore Payload
In a major breakthrough against organized crime, a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Narcotics Task Force (NTF) and the Sambhal district police successfully dismantled an inter-district gang involved in trafficking illegal chemical precursors. Law enforcement personnel intercepted a sealed container truck, recovering a massive haul of 629 kilograms of Acetic anhydride. According to Sambhal Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar Bishnoi, the seized chemical consignment commands an estimated market valuation of ₹1.6 crore, representing a severe blow to the regional narcotics network.
The seizure carries critical security implications, as Acetic anhydride is a strictly monitored, controlled substance widely utilized as a core chemical precursor in manufacturing high-potency narcotics like heroin and smack, as well as illicit explosives. During the highway interception, the police arrested four key operatives identified as Shoaib, Nazim, Rajpal, and Madan Pal. Authorities revealed that all four suspects are habitual offenders with extensive criminal histories, including prior bookings under the stringent Gangster Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigating teams have launched a comprehensive follow-up probe to map out the gang’s backward and forward supply chains across state borders.
