BJP Accepts K Annamalai’s Resignation from Primary Membership
New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party National President Nitin Nabin has formally accepted the resignation of former Tamil Nadu unit chief K. Annamalai from the party’s primary membership, according to an official press release issued on Friday.
The development comes days after Annamalai visited New Delhi and met senior party leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP General Secretary B. L. Santhosh. His exit has triggered political speculation in Tamil Nadu regarding his future course.
Ahead of the announcement, Annamalai had indicated that he would engage with the public through a social media interaction, describing it as an “open, heart-to-heart conversation.” His statement further fueled discussions about his next political move.
Speculation about the possibility of launching a new political outfit had already gained momentum following the BJP’s performance in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where the party secured around 3 per cent vote share while contesting in alliance. Despite boosting the party’s vote share to about 11 per cent in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP failed to win any seats in the state.
Posters expressing support for Annamalai have also appeared in parts of Coimbatore, reflecting continued backing from sections of party workers and supporters amid the evolving political scenario.
