Kerala Village Relies on Flimsy Bamboo Bridge Eight Years After Flood Devastation
MANKULAM — Residents of Kallakuttykudi in Mankulam continue to face severe travel hardships, relying entirely on a temporary bamboo bridge built across the Nallathanni River to access essential services. The local community has been forced to risk their lives on the makeshift structure because the original concrete bridge, which was destroyed during the catastrophic 2018 floods, has not been rebuilt by authorities. Locals state that the lack of a permanent crossing isolates the village during heavy rains and severely restricts access to medical care, education, and essential markets.
