S. Vijayadharani Formally Shifts Allegiance, Joins Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)
In a major political realignment in southern Tamil Nadu, prominent leader and three-time former Vilavancode MLA, S. Vijayadharani, officially joined the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
The induction took place at the TVK party headquarters in Panaiyur, near Chennai. Vijayadharani formally accepted the party membership in the presence of TVK General Secretary and Rural Development Minister Bussy N. Anand, alongside senior leaders Aadhav Arjuna and Rajmohan.
A Major Shift in Kanyakumari’s Political Matrix
Vijayadharani’s political transition marks her second high-profile party switch in just over two years, signaling a significant reshuffling of structural influence in the Kanyakumari district:
- Conquering the Stronghold: Vijayadharani built her primary political foundation with the Indian National Congress, winning the Vilavancode Assembly constituency for three consecutive terms in 2011, 2016, and 2021. During this period, she also served as the Chief Whip of the Congress in the State Assembly and General Secretary of the All India Mahila Congress.
- The Brief BJP Stint: In February 2024, she resigned her assembly seat and shifted allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi. However, her association with the BJP faced a reality check in the recent state assembly elections, where she finished a distant third behind the victorious Congress and a surging TVK.
- Strengthening TVK’s Southern Base: Frustrated by the lack of organizational roles within the BJP and seeking a fresh path to serve her core electorate, Vijayadharani chose to join forces with Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s TVK. Her entry, along with a massive wave of local supporters, is expected to heavily bolster TVK’s organizational strength and ground-level connectivity in the southern legislative belts.

Vijayadharani was not the only notable political figure to cross over. The TVK headquarters witnessed a busy session of high-profile inductions:
Parallel Entry of Senior Leaders: Alongside Vijayadharani, several veteran political stalwarts formally aligned with TVK, including former AIADMK Minister K.T. Pachaimal, and former Members of Parliament N. Balaganga, R. Vanaroja, and A. Elavarasan.
By actively absorbing seasoned regional leaders with deep electoral experience, TVK is swiftly expanding its administrative framework and positioning itself as a dominant political gravity well ahead of upcoming local body and institutional face-offs.
