Congress Hits Out at DMK Over INDIA Bloc Boycott Decision
Chennai: Reacting to the DMK’s decision to boycott the INDIA bloc meeting, Congress State Vice President SM Hidayathullah said that while the party respects the autonomy of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) to take its own decisions, it neither supports nor welcomes the move. He stated that the DMK’s claims of betrayal were unfounded, pointing out that not only Congress but several alliance partners had previously contested and won under the DMK’s “rising sun” symbol. Questioning why multiple alliance partners now appear to be at odds with the DMK, he asserted that Congress has never betrayed its allies.
Referring to past political developments, Hidayathullah recalled that in 2014, Congress had aligned with the DMK, but later felt sidelined when it was not included in the alliance, which he claimed weakened both parties electorally. He further noted that the DMK had subsequently re-extended an invitation to Congress to join the alliance. His remarks come amid rising tensions within the opposition alliance, highlighting differences between key partners and adding to the ongoing political discourse in Tamil Nadu.
