Tripura Shifts to Five-Day Work Week with Extended Daily Hours
The Tripura government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, has introduced a significant administrative reform by transitioning to a five-day work week for all state government offices. Under this new policy, all Saturdays have been officially declared as holidays, replacing the previous system where only the second and fourth Saturdays were observed as days off. To compensate for the reduced working days and ensure that public services and administrative efficiency remain entirely unaffected, daily office hours have been extended. State government employees will now work from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, moving away from the earlier schedule of 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
This comprehensive scheduling shift is designed to strike a progressive balance between workplace productivity and employee welfare. Officials emphasize that the extended weekend will enhance the overall morale and mental well-being of the workforce by offering more opportunities for family engagement and personal growth. Alongside the revised schedule, the state cabinet has also implemented broader sustainability and cost-cutting measures, including conducting a major portion of official meetings virtually and promoting the use of electric vehicles to curb fuel consumption and minimize administrative expenditures.
