Saugata Roy Rejects BJP Offer Amid Widespread Trinamool Congress Rebellion
Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Saugata Roy revealed that he received a direct invitation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to jump ship, an offer he promptly turned down. Asserting his political loyalty, the five-term Lok Sabha MP declared that he intends to remain firmly committed to the political party under whose symbol he fought and won his electoral mandate. Roy criticized fellow party members who are defecting during this challenging period, characterizing the internal rebellion as an unfortunate move by individuals who lack the mental strength to navigate political adversity.
This declaration of allegiance comes at a turbulent moment for the TMC, which is currently grappling with severe internal fractures following a major setback in the West Bengal state assembly elections. While a significant faction of rebel TMC lawmakers has recently moved to form a breakaway group to support the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Roy emphasized that the wider opposition coalition is rallying around the party leadership. He credited the INDIA bloc with providing crucial solidarity to the TMC during this period of high political pressure, specifically pointing to senior Congress leaders who publicly condemned a recent mob attack on TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee as proof of a united opposition front.
