Union Finance Minister Receives Over ₹8,800 Crore Dividend from State Bank of India
In a significant financial development, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman received a massive dividend cheque of ₹8,813 crore for the financial year 2025-26 from the State Bank of India (SBI). The ceremonial cheque was presented directly to the Finance Minister in New Delhi by the newly appointed SBI Chairman, C.S. Setty. This substantial fiscal payout underscores the stellar financial performance, robust asset quality improvements, and record-breaking profitability achieved by India’s largest public sector lender over the past financial year.
As the majority stakeholder holding an approximate 55% equity share in the public sector banking giant, the Government of India stands as the primary beneficiary of this dividend distribution. The payout serves as a major boost to the Centre’s non-tax revenue collections, offering vital fiscal support for ongoing public infrastructure projects and welfare schemes. The massive remittance follows SBI’s blockbuster financial report for the year, during which the banking behemoth crossed a historic total business milestone of ₹109 trillion and declared an interim dividend of ₹17.35 per equity share for its eligible investors.
