Cultural Confluence in Nice: PM Modi and President Macron Admire French Artists’ Jaipur-Inspired Masterpieces
Highlighting culture as a core foundation of the deeply rooted Indo-French alliance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron celebrated a unique artistic bridge during the grand opening of the “Bharat Innovates 2026” conclave in Nice, France.
Alongside navigating frontier deep-tech collaborations, the two global leaders took time to view a special art exhibition featuring the works of two celebrated French artists, Théophile de Bascher and Thibault de la Lance. The showcased pieces were the direct fruit of a recent 10-day Art Residency program undertaken by the duo in the historic city of Jaipur, Rajasthan.
A Beautiful Confluence of Indian Heritage and French Aesthetics
The exhibition offered a visual testament to how India’s rich visual history continues to inspire contemporary global creators:
- The Inspiration Matrix: Immersed in the vibrant colors, majestic architecture, and royal heritage of Jaipur, both de Bascher and de la Lance utilized their residency to capture the soul of Rajasthan.
- The Creative Output: The resulting artworks seamlessly blend classical French aesthetic sensibilities with traditional Indian motifs, textiles, and geometric patterns.
- A Diplomatic Highlight: Both PM Modi and President Macron expressed deep appreciation for the collection, noting that such cultural exchanges perfectly mirror the spirit of the ongoing India-France Year of Innovation.
Deepening the Special Global Strategic Partnership
While art took center stage to emphasize soft-power diplomacy, the broader engagements at the Palais des Expositions de Nice underscored an increasingly robust technological and industrial alliance:
The Bilateral Blueprint: Following the inaugural ceremony, President Macron hosted an official lunch in honor of the Prime Minister. The two leaders reviewed the rollout of their newly elevated Special Global Strategic Partnership, welcoming the signing of 19 cross-border institutional agreements spanning deep-tech, AI, semiconductor supply chains, defense co-development, and the further expansion of India’s UPI payment network across France.
