Fifteen-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his extraordinary rise in world cricket by hammering a breathtaking 94 runs off just 29 deliveries. Playing for India A against Sri Lanka A in the tri-series final at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, the young left-handed opener rewrote cricket history by blasting his half-century in a mere 11 balls. This explosive performance eclipsed a more than two-decade-old List A record previously held by Sri Lanka’s Kaushalya Weeraratne, who hit a 12-ball fifty in 2003. Sooryavanshi completely dismantled the opposition’s bowling attack from the opening over, clearing the boundaries at will with a whirlwind knock that featured 10 boundaries and eight massive sixes.
The teenage sensation seemed locked in to equal another global milestone, sitting just six runs away from matching Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk’s record for the fastest-ever List A century off 29 balls. However, his historic charge was cut short in the ninth over when Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige claimed his wicket, ending the masterclass just short of the triple-figure mark.
This spectacular innings caps off a phenomenal breakout year for the Bihar-born cricketer, who recently dominated the IPL 2026 season with the Rajasthan Royals. During his maiden IPL campaign, Sooryavanshi amassed 776 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 237.30 to claim the coveted Orange Cap, alongside the Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player, Super Striker, and Super Sixes awards.
