PM Surya Ghar Scheme Nears 1 Crore Homes, Says Pralhad Joshi
Delhi: Highlighting the progress of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said the initiative is rapidly advancing toward its target of covering 1 crore households with rooftop solar power. He noted that the vision for large-scale renewable energy expansion was set in 2014 with a 500 GW target, and the dedicated scheme for households was launched in early 2024 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Implementation began by June 2024, and within just two years, around 41.5 lakh households have already been covered under the scheme. The number is expected to soon cross 60–65 lakh, reflecting strong adoption across the country. Expressing confidence, the minister stated that the government is on track to achieve the ambitious goal of reaching 1 crore households in the near future, further strengthening India’s push toward clean and sustainable energy.
