India–US Advance Trade Talks on Interim Agreement Framework

New Delhi: India and the United States have made progress in ongoing trade negotiations following a Joint Statement issued on 7 February 2026, which outlined a framework for an Interim Agreement on reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade. The framework reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to advancing the broader India–U.S. Bilateral Trade Agreement discussions, aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and addressing key trade-related priorities.

According to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, a delegation from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), led by the Chief Negotiator, visited India from 1–4 June 2026 to further advance discussions on the proposed trade agreement. During the visit, officials from both sides held constructive and positive deliberations covering a wide range of issues, including trade in goods, non-tariff barriers, customs procedures, trade facilitation measures, economic security alignment, and other areas of mutual interest.

The discussions reflect continued efforts by both nations to build a structured trade framework that enhances economic engagement, reduces trade frictions, and promotes long-term strategic cooperation between India and the United States.
