Patna Coaching Clash: High Court Grants Bail to Educator Roshan Anand in Firing Case
In a notable legal twist within Patna’s competitive coaching sector, the court has granted bail to educator Roshan Anand, the director of Gyan Bindu GS Academy. Anand had been taken into custody following a high-profile violent clash and firing incident outside “Khan Global Studies,” the prominent coaching institute operated by nationally known online educator Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir.
Providing details on the breakthrough, senior advocate Ramakant Sharma clarified that the prosecution’s entire case against Anand hinges solely on allegations of criminal conspiracy, rather than physical involvement at the spot.
Key Legal Aspects Highlighted by the Defense
Advocate Ramakant Sharma pointed out critical gaps and timeline contradictions in the state’s case that influenced the court’s decision to grant relief:
- Absence from the Crime Scene: The defense successfully argued that Roshan Anand was not physically present at the scene of the disturbance. The prosecution’s case rests entirely on the premise that he masterminded the agitation from behind the scenes, without any direct evidence of physical participation or overt acts of violence.
- Timeline Discrepancies in the Counter-FIR: Sharma raised questions over the police’s handling of cross-complaints. He pointed out a significant lag, noting that while the main incident erupted on June 2, the local police registered a counter-version of the case only on June 4.
- Judicial Advisory on Classroom Ethics: While processing the bail order, the court expressed strong displeasure over the growing criminalization of institutional rivalry. The bench observed that educators must maintain a dignified code of conduct, adding that while healthy business competition is welcome, there is absolutely no room for resorting to criminal behaviors in the noble field of education.
Context of the Musallahpur Haat Rivalry
The legal battle stems from intense business competition in Patna’s Musallahpur Haat and Naya Tola areas—the primary coaching hubs for lakhs of competitive exam aspirants in Bihar. On June 2, a major confrontation involving stone-pelting, vandalism, and brief gunfire broke out between two factions outside Khan Sir’s center.
The police launched a swift crackdown, arresting Anand and several security guards. While the lower civil courts initially rejected his regular bail, a subsequent review and detailed scrutiny of the CCTV evidence established that the core charges against the educator were limited to conspiracy, clearing the path for his release.
