Empowering Education: Gujarat’s Samras Hostel Scheme Drives Social Change
The Gujarat Samras Hostel Scheme serves as a vital pillar of support for underprivileged students striving to achieve academic success. Initiated in 2016, this state government program currently manages 23 modern hostels across 13 districts, accommodating approximately 14,000 higher education aspirants. By providing completely free lodging, nutritious meals, and high-quality amenities, the initiative ensures that youth from remote and marginalized areas can continue their university studies seamlessly, without facing debilitating financial barriers.
Designed to maximize academic focus, these residential facilities offer conducive study environments equipped with modern digital tools like computers and Wi-Fi access. To promote equitable opportunities for all marginalized communities, the scheme implements a structured seat reservation policy, allocating 45% of seats to the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC), 30% to Scheduled Tribes (ST), 15% to Scheduled Castes (SC), and 10% to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). By bringing together individuals from various backgrounds under one roof, the hostels do more than just foster academic growth; they also cultivate a shared sense of community and lasting social unity.
