Praggnanandhaa Scripts History as First Indian to Clinch Prestigious Norway Chess Title
STAVANGER: Twenty-year-old Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa scripted chess history on Friday by becoming the first Indian ever to win the highly coveted Norway Chess title. Entering the final round in third place with 15 points, the Chennai prodigy delivered under intense pressure, securing a decisive classical win over Germany’s Vincent Keymer to finish at the top of the leaderboard with 18 points. Praggnanandhaa’s remarkable triumph achieves a feat that had previously eluded elite Indian players, including five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand and reigning world champion D Gukesh, marking a historic milestone for Indian chess since the tournament’s inception in 2013.
